The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland signs an Agreement on the enforcement of sentences

On Thursday 8 November 2007, the Minister of State for the Ministry of Justice of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Mr David Hanson, and the President of the International Criminal Court, Judge Philippe Kirsch, signed the Agreement between the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the International Criminal Court on the enforcement of sentences imposed by the International Criminal Court.

The signing ceremony took place in London.

The Rome Statute provides that the sentences handed down by the Judges "shall be served in a State designated by the Court from a list of States which have indicated to the Court their willingness to accept sentenced persons". (Article 103).

President Kirsch thanked the Minister for the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland’s decision to enter into the agreement with the Court and expressed his appreciation for the United Kingdom’s longstanding commitment and support for the Court.
