Call for applications to the List of Professional Investigators
In accordance with regulation 137, paragraph 1 of the Regulations of the Registry, a list of professional investigators is created. Persons who possess the requisite qualifications as stipulated by Regulation 137-2 of the Regulations of the Registry can apply for inclusion in this list.
Qualifications for admission to the list
The Registry reviews received applications for the list of professional investigators in order to establish whether they are admissible in conformity with the relevant provisions of the Regulations of the Registry.
To be included on the list, interested candidates shall meet the following requirements as outlined in Regulation 137-2 of the Regulations of the Registry: that is to have established competence in international- or criminal law and procedure and at least ten (10) years of relevant experience in investigative work in criminal proceedings at national and international level. Candidates must also have an excellent knowledge of and be fluent in at least one of the working languages of the Court [English or French].
Duties and responsibilities
The persons added to the list can be called upon at any time by defence counsel, legal representatives of victims or a person representing himself or herself, to provide their assistance/expertise in relation to proceedings before the Court.
The conduct of professional investigators is governed by the pertinent provisions of the Rome Statute, the Rules of Procedure and Evidence, the Regulations of the Court, the Regulations of the Registry and the Code of professional conduct for counsel.
How to apply to be included in the list of professional investigators
The Court specifically encourages and welcomes applications from female candidates, as well as from candidates practicing in countries a situation in which has been brought before the Court.
Candidates seeking to be added to the list of professional investigators must send the following documents to the address given below:
All applicants:
- Candidate application form, duly signed
- Detailed curriculum vitae
- A certificate issued by the relevant authority of the State(s) in which you are domiciled, stating the existence, if any, of criminal convictions
- Legible copy of birth certificate
- Legible copy of passport / travel document
- 2 passport size pictures
Applicants to whom the following will apply:
- Original or certified copy of the certificate issued by the bar association, professional association and/or the controlling administrative authority with which you are registered
- Completed Certificate of good standing
